Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA)

Program Description

The Order of Christian Initiation for Adults is a program instituted by the Second Vatican Council to prepare adults to become members of the Catholic Church. The purpose of this program is to prepare adults to recieve the Sacraments of Initiation: Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist. While the primary goal of the RCIA program is to bring unbaptized persons into the church (i.e. Catechumens), the program is also for adults who have been baptized but have not yet received the Sacraments of Eucharist and/or Confirmation (i.e. Candidates).

The content of the program focuses on the Sacraments, prayer, Scripture and what it means to be an adult Catholic Christian in our world.  

OCIA generally run from the Fall to the Spring, culiminating with the reception of the sacraments at the Easter Vigil. If you are interested in these classes, please contact St. Joseph’s Office for more information.

More importantly, if you know of someone in your family, a friend or a fellow worker who would like to be part of a wonderful Catholic Faith community like our parish, encourage them to think about joining the OCIA program. We are all called upon to do the Lord’s work. Be a missionary in your own family or place of work.
